Nsofwa Urges Political Leaders, Youths to Protect Public Infrastructure During Nominations

Education advocate and alumni leader Moffat Nsofwa has called on political leaders and young people to preserve peace and protect public infrastructure as Zambia moves through its nomination process, warning that schools should not become casualties of political violence.

Speaking on ZNBC’s “The Update” programme, Nsofwa said damage to public facilities carries a direct cost to learners and places an avoidable financial strain on the country, since resources meant for development end up redirected toward rebuilding what was destroyed. He argued that political activity should never come at the expense of learners’ education, describing today’s students as the country’s future leadership.

Nsofwa urged aspiring leaders to conduct their campaigns peacefully and to model that behaviour for the young people watching them, cautioning that Zambia cannot continue absorbing the cost of repairing infrastructure damaged during election cycles. He also raised concern over the recurring pattern of youths being drawn into political violence, calling on young people to reject that role and instead position themselves as protectors of the country’s peace and development.

He framed national development as a responsibility that should unite all political actors regardless of affiliation, arguing that Zambia’s future ultimately belongs to its young people and the generations still to come. He closed by repeating his call for calm from the youth and a renewed focus among leaders on unity, education, and safeguarding national assets.

Nsofwa is president of the Ex-Kawambwa Boys Alumni Association and has been active in alumni-led initiatives supporting school development and learner welfare, with publicly available information also linking him to alumni efforts tied to Kawambwa Provincial STEM School and the National Alumni Association for Secondary Schools.
