The Zambia Correctional Service has paid tribute to Senior Superintendent Terrison Chafwa, who died on August 10, 2026, after 32 years of dedicated service to the institution.

A Distinguished Career

A tribute from Commissioner General Fredrick S.S. Chilukutu, delivered on his behalf by Director Human Resource, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Kapalu Luneta, remembered Chafwa as a disciplined, dependable and committed officer. He joined the Zambia Correctional Service in 1994 as a Warder and rose steadily through the ranks to Senior Superintendent, building a career marked by professionalism and continuous learning.

Over his career, he served at Maximum Prison, the Central Workshop, Prisons Headquarters as Motor Transport Officer, Nyimba Prison Farm, Serenje Correctional Facility, Kabwe Medium Security Correctional Facility, and finally the Correctional Staff Training College. DCP Luneta noted that his broad experience across mechanical work, motor transport, administration and officer training allowed him to make a meaningful contribution to the Service in multiple capacities.

A Legacy of Discipline and Mentorship

DCP Luneta urged officers to honour Chafwa’s memory by emulating his discipline, willingness to learn and commitment to duty, and paid tribute to Mrs Chafwa and their children for the sacrifices families of officers make throughout a career of service. He told the family that Chafwa had served the nation with distinction and built a name they could carry with pride.

He said Chafwa’s legacy would remain within the institution, particularly among the officers he trained and the colleagues he worked alongside, describing his service as complete and his standard as one that would endure.

The Zambia Correctional Service extended its condolences to Mrs Chafwa, the children, the extended family, colleagues and all who mourn his passing.
