Constable Mumbuna Namakando of Kabwata Police Station has died after collapsing while on duty near Lewanika Mall in Lusaka on the night of July 31.
Circumstances of the Collapse
Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi confirmed that Constable Mumbuna Namakando collapsed near Lewanika Mall along Mosi-o-Tunya Road at around 22:00 hours on Friday, July 31, under circumstances that are yet to be established. He was rushed to Chilenje Level One Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Chilabi said the officer’s body has since been taken to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death. He said the Zambia Police Service will provide further information as investigations continue.
A Constable and an Athlete
Beyond his police duties, Constable Namakando represented the Zambia Police Service in sporting competitions as an athlete. Chilabi extended the Service’s condolences to the late officer’s family, friends and colleagues following his death.
