Proflight Zambia has added a third daily weekend return service between Lusaka and Johannesburg, alongside a new Friday Cape Town flight starting in December, as the airline responds to growing demand on its South Africa routes.
More Weekend Flights to Johannesburg
Proflight Zambia is now operating a third daily return service between Lusaka and Johannesburg on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, having begun the new weekend flights on September 19. The additional service departs Lusaka at 15:30hrs, arriving in Johannesburg at 17:30hrs, with the return flight departing Johannesburg at 18:25hrs and arriving back in Lusaka at 20:25hrs. This takes the route to three return flights on weekend days, on top of the airline’s existing twice-daily service.
For the December 2026 and January 2027 holiday period, the airline will run 54 extra flights between Lusaka and Johannesburg beyond its regular schedule, with no flights operating on Christmas Day.
A New Friday Service to Cape Town
From December 11, Cape Town will be served four times a week, with a new Friday flight joining the existing Monday, Wednesday and Saturday services. The Friday flight departs Lusaka at 10:40hrs and arrives in Cape Town at 15:05hrs, with the return departing at 15:55hrs and landing in Lusaka at 20:10hrs. The later Friday timing is designed to connect with Proflight’s domestic network, including morning flights from Ndola, Solwezi, Kalumbila and Mfuwe. The service routes via Livingstone with a brief stopover, giving Livingstone travellers a fourth weekly direct connection to Cape Town.
Meeting Rising Demand
Capt. Josias Walubita, Director of Government and Industry Affairs at Proflight Zambia, said the Zambia–South Africa route had outgrown two flights a day on weekends, and that the expanded schedule gives passengers departure choice comparable to travellers on some of Africa’s busiest city routes. He said demand on the route continues to grow year on year.
