Wynter Kabimba has described the wave of running mates withdrawing from the August general election as “political scavengers,” likening their conduct to “stray dogs” moving around in search of what to eat, and has urged political parties to vet members more carefully before admitting them.
His comments follow a string of high-profile withdrawals over the past two weeks. The most recent involved Moses Mawere, who withdrew as Harry Kalaba’s running mate and endorsed Tonse Alliance candidate Brian Mundubile. Days earlier, Brian Mushimba’s running mate Andyford Banda also withdrew and threw his support behind Mundubile.
Commenting on the pattern, Kabimba said those withdrawing lacked clear political direction, framing the defections as opportunistic rather than principled. The remarks add a sharp voice to an already heated conversation about loyalty and coalition-building as smaller parties and independent tickets reposition themselves ahead of polling day.
