Government has broken ground on Omnia Fertilizer Zambia’s 120,000-metric-tonne Fertilizer Blending Plant, a facility expected to support President Hakainde Hichilema’s agricultural transformation agenda.
Building Toward Soil-Specific Production
The groundbreaking of Omnia Fertilizer Zambia’s 120,000-metric-tonne Fertilizer Blending Plant marks another step toward transforming Zambia’s agriculture sector into a productive, competitive and export-oriented industry. By producing customised, soil-specific fertilizer blends locally, the facility is expected to improve soil health, increase crop yields, create jobs and strengthen national food security.
Speaking on behalf of Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa, Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary for Technical Services John Mulongoti said the investment lays the foundation for increased agricultural productivity, improved farmer livelihoods and greater private sector participation. He linked the plant to President Hichilema’s broader production targets: 10 million metric tonnes of maize, 3 million metric tonnes of soya beans, and 1 million metric tonnes each of wheat and sugar annually by 2031.

Representing the Head of the Presidential Delivery Unit, Kusobile Kamwambi, Delivery Manager for Technology and Innovation Mupota Muchelemba reaffirmed the PDU’s commitment to supporting strategic investments that accelerate delivery under the President’s agricultural transformation agenda.
